‘Watch it for Irrfan’ A comprehensive yet honest statement for this off beat(pretty much what will work) cinema. A story that dwelled in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s, of Haasil and Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster fame, mind since the days he was working on the sets of the Shekhar Kapoor’s Bandit Queen in Chambal valley. Inspired by the life of a talented and much forgotten Paan Singh Tomar, poverty driven-Hunger forced farmer-turned athlete champion steeplechase runner-turned subedar- turned Dacoit (or better ‘a rebel’ as he likes to be called), who inflicted much chaos and caused terror in the Chambal Valley. It is a story of free spirited sportsman who becomes an outlaw to get back at the cruel society.
The basic plot seems quirkily unusual and way out of the ‘bollywood’ box of ideas. Tigmanshu Dhulia has surely grown from being a television guy to being the imaginative man in the director’s seat. If not for anything else, this is a must watch for the extra effort taken by Irrfan to come up with one of his finest performance till date. Besides Irrfan, the cast also includes MahI Gill who will surely add to the power pack performance expected from the lead character. Paan Singh Tomar also brings you back Vipin Sharma aka Nandakishore Avasthi from the TZP fame, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and the only other known name in the cast is of that that Pakistani Journalist from Mighty Heart, Imran Hasnee. If all these weren’t enough, on the editor’s desk we have Aarti Bajaj, who has given us some of the finest cinemas in the last decade starting from Black Friday, Aamir, Jab We Met, Dev D and I can go with it until I talk about RockStar of the recent times. The music scored by Abhishek Ray isn’t something I am not expecting much from and would leave that for the Music Lovers to decide upon. Having said that, I must add “Mamaiya Kero Mama” seems to be interesting and already has some fans in the making. Continue reading
